Robotics company Rethink Robotics has released a video of its seven-axis collaborative robot (cobot) Sawyer handling food.
The machine was designed to complete tasks that are more difficult to automate using conventional industrial robots.
Sawyer is fitted with a robot arm capable of seven degrees of freedom and a reach of approximately 50 inches (1.27m) for manoeuvring in narrow or tight environments.
The cobot can also reportedly handle fragile objects using a soft gripper, which is made from materials certified to handle food. It can also serve coffee.
According to Rethink Robotics, Sawyer has eight digital inputs and eight digital outputs, as well as other communication interfaces, which allows Sawyer to control various peripheral devices like conveyor belts.
