Autonomous vehicle technology developer Kodiak Robotics has announced the launch of an advisory council to support the commercialisation autonomous trucks alongside other key players in the field.
The major focuses of the Kodiak Industry Advisory Council will be product development, deployment of technology and engaging with the public.
Some of the other parties to join the council include The Arkansas Trucking Association, Loadsmith, Walmart, Werner Enterprises and UPS, all of which are inaugural members.
“Kodiak’s Industry Advisory Council was designed to bring a variety of additional perspectives, including those of fleets, regulators and trucking industry groups, to determine how we can best scale our technology in the coming years,” Michael Wiesinger, vice president of commercialisation at Kodiak.
“The Industry Advisory Council will help us shape our approach as we work to integrate our autonomous trucking technology into fleets’ existing operations and ensure we solve our customers’ biggest pain points.”
Kodiak’s main sectors of operation are trucking and defence; it has deployed its technology in several real-world freight applications since its founding in 2018.
James Reed, board member at Kodiak Robotics, will chair the council, with the Industry Advisory Council set to meet quarterly to explore key challenges to the adoption of autonomous trucking technology, such as public education, cost barriers and regulatory challenges.
