As part of a reported multi-million pound partnership, telecommunications company BT and information technology firm Atos have launched Digital Vision — a new computer vision solution designed to support industries, including manufacturing and logistics, by providing artificial intelligence (AI) models.
Computer vision is a field of AI that enables computers and systems to interpret information from digital images, videos and other visual feeds and take automated actions or make recommendations based on the available data.
The computer vision solution will combine BT’s digital connectivity with Atos’ Computer Vision Platform, a scalable end-to-end solution, to provide pre-trained and customisable AI models.
AI analysis of video footage and images is used industry-wide in applications such as transport safety and traffic monitoring, quality control in manufacturing and location tracking. The joint BT-Atos solution was designed to improve security and monitoring for customers by supporting real time use of video and image data.
Digital Vision will use BT’s 5G/FTTx multi-access connectivity and edge computing to assist businesses to receive a scalable, ready-to-deploy service with 24/7 support and technical guidance.
Marc Overton, managing director for division x, within BT’s enterprise unit, said: “This partnership with Atos gives us access to the Computer Vision market for the first time, providing us the opportunity to play an even bigger role in the digital transformation of businesses around the world.”
The partnership announcement follows BT’s recent statement that it will be investing nearly £100m over the next three years in its ‘Division X’ unit to speed up the development of customer solutions for new technologies, such as 5G, IoT, edge computing, cloud-based platforms and AI.
