Toyota Material Handling Europe has announced the launch a high-density automated guided vehicle (AGV) and pallet shuttle solution designed to help increase storage space and optimise manpower in warehouse enivornments.
According to Toyota, its Swarm Automation Storage solution offers aisle-free storage density that is reportedly up to 80% denser than selective racking, and is able to fit into existing available space, with optional scalability.
The automated storage and retrieval system combines three components, namely the Toyota Radioshuttle and high-density storage system, working with the company’s RAE automated reach truck, and controlled by Toyota’s T-ONE warehouse execution system, which interacts with the user’s warehouse management software.
The structure and the size of the storage system are flexible as it can be configured to maximise the use of the available space, and the number of shuttles and automated guided forklifts can be scaled according to operational demands, said Toyota.

The storage solution is principally designed for storing palletised loads. that are transported by the shuttle units through storage channels within the racking system.
Loads are fed into the system by the automated reach trucks, which also moves the shuttle units between different channels.
The storage system can be configured to suit the application, providing first-in, first-out) or last-in, first-out scheduling.
What’s more, the system is suitable for different storage needs such as a finished goods warehouse in manufacturing or to hold replenishment inventory for picking stations.

Other storage and handling requirements come with high volumes of stock in bulk storage or when allocating extra space for buffer storage at inbound and outbound areas.
What’s more, the storage system can also be built on a higher level of a facility, providing clear working space below.
Jose Gener, vice president, sales and marketing, Toyota Material Handling Europe, said: “We see many companies that want to increase the use of their available space.
“Automation is an increasingly popular route for our customers to take, given the current challenges on the labour market.
“So combining these key products into an off-the-shelf solution simply makes sense.”
