Cleaning robot company Avidbots has secured US$70m (£60m) in a Series C funding round to expand its fleet of commercial cleaning robots.
Avidbots will also open a new, 70,00ft² (6,503m²) headquarters in Kitchener-Waterloo.
Both new and returning investors took part, with growth capital asset manager Jeneration Capital leading this round of funding.
Avidbots raised a US$23.6m (£21.2m) in a Series B round more than three years ago. According to the firm, its financing to date totals US$107m (£96.4m).
Existing investors True Ventures, Next 47, SOSV, GGV Capital, BDC Capital, Golden Ventures and Kensington Capital Partners, all took part in the most recent round.
BMO Capital Partners, Golden Vision Capital and Nicola Wealth also joined as first-time investors in this most recent funding round.
Avidbots launched in 2014 and was founded by two University of Waterloo engineering students, CEO Faizan Sheikh and CTO and chairman Pablo Molina.
The company claims that more than 1,000 of its robots are being used in more than a dozen countries across five continents.
The firms’ fleet of cleaning robots was designed for deployment in settings including education, healthcare, manufacturing, airports and transit hubs.
The startup plans to use its Series C capital to expand its fleet of commercial cleaning robots, in addition to increasing its sales and marketing ambitions to expand its market share in regions like the United States, and globally.
To improve its research and development and testing capabilities, Avidbots also announced that it has secured additional space in Kitchener-Waterloo for a new headquarters, describing the new 70,000ft² space as a “significant upgrade”, compared to its previous 40,000ft² (3,716m²) site.
