Uniting Cloud, a recruitment consultancy that specialises in the software development sector, has released its latest industry report, which reveals disparity in pay based on gender across the field.
The study shows a five percent decrease in the gender pay gap between male and female employees with less than two years experience, falling from nine to five percent over the past year.
However, as levels of experience increase, so does the pay gap, with female employees of six to 10 years experience still facing a 31% pay disparity.
Mandy Kettle, executive consultant, Uniting Cloud, said: “We are delighted to see the gender pay gap reducing from 9% last year to 4% this year at junior levels.
“There are a few reasons for this as more and more juniors take STEM and computer science courses and naturally see software as a career path.
“Historically, the industry has been dominated by men and we still see men form the majority of experienced specialists and leadership teams in the industry.
“Ensuring women are empowered to take the next steps in their career is part of what we are trying to do here at Uniting Cloud.
“Our industry report is the start of this and gives us real insight into what the industry wants to receive and what they expect.”
Uniting Cloud’s claims its report was produced to offer insight into gender disparity across pay based on experience, technology and market saturation. It is also designed to improve transparency for those looking to join organisations.
The report also covers key professional benefits. Some of these include flexible working, base salary changes, development opportunities, company ethos and vision and healthcare.
