Integrated robotics solutions provider Dobot has developed a new range of collaborative robots (cobots) – named the Nova Series – which it claims to have designed specifically to meet the needs of retail customers.
Some of the tasks Dobot points to as suitable for the Nova Series are making coffee, cocktail, ice cream, noodles, fried chicken and even physical therapy.
The retail-focused Nova 2 and the physiotherapy bot Nova 5 are the first two models in the Nova Series to be announced, with the company reporting respective payloads of 2kg and 5kg. Dobot suggests the they can replace some of the responsibilities of workers and reduce human contact during pandemic scenarios.
Other features include colour customisation to better fit into retail stores, with the robot manufacturer stating this series’ design is more compact than other comparable industrial cobots as it can reportedly fit within one square metre of space.
Dobot points to the bots’ drag to teach and graphical user interface, which is designed for ease-of-use. ,
What’s more, the company claims that anyone can program a Nova without coding knowledge and that setting one up can take as little as 10 minutes.
Some of the series’ safety features include the ability to intelligently sense human movement and stop operation in 0.01 second upon collision detection, Dobot has claimed. In case of power outage, Nova is designed to automatically freeze in position to ensure the safety of others.
