Warehouse technology company AutoStore has announced the launch of PickUpPort, a consumer-facing port that allows online orders and in-person pick up directly from AutoStore.
The solution was reportedly available to purchase from yesterday [15 November].
To operate the port, organisations don’t need excessive training or an extended implementation window, its manufacturer has said.
What’s more, the pick-up system is designed to work by processing an order and using a controller function to communicate with an AutoStore robot, which then performs the pick from the relevant bin.
AutoStore claims that the warehouse operator then consolidates the order, which is stored within the AutoStore System. The robot then brings the bin loaded with the correct product to the PickUpPort when a customer arrives in-store.
The company has likewise signed up to exhibit some of its warehousing solutions at Stand 400 at IntralogisteX 2023, which will be co-located with Robotics and Automation 2023.
Carlos Fernández, chief product officer at AutoStore, said: “It’s important for us to help retailers stay ahead in an ever-changing industry.
“With the new PickUpPort, retailers can offer a hassle-free pick-up option in-store, and customers can see how Robots pick, organise and store items.
“When retailers adopt this technology, their customers get even more flexibility and freedom.”
AutoStore suggests the PickUpPort is a desirable alternative to last-mile deliveries and responds to a demand for greater efficiency in the processing of e-commerce orders.
Part of this includes the development of what AutoStore describes as a user-friendly design, which includes multiple safety measures, such as warning labels, a damper, a safety bar and stoppers. It is the company’s fifth port module.
