Conveyor Systems Limited (CSL) has designed and installed an automated order-picking and replenishment system for logistics provider DB Schenker.
The system has been installed at DB Schenker’s Tamworth warehouse to increase order picking efficiency.
The solution is designed to free up space and save labour by eliminating the need for order pickers to carry totes from one warehouse floor to another. This also reduces risk of incidents and injury.
The system can reportedly carry 15 pick totes per minute on two reversible Interroll 24v zero-pressure conveyors and two 6.5m (21.3ft) high reversible spiral elevators.
Nick Morris, operations excellence manager at DB Schenker, said: “The automated order picking and replenishment system from CSL has increased productivity by 5% for a team of eight pickers.
“Overall, a total of 832 working hours have been saved so far as a result.”
The logistics provider claims to have chosen CSL using strict selection criteria, based both on case studies of previous installations and competitive pricing.
