Ranpak Holding, a sustainable packaging solutions provider, has unveiled its Flap’it! machine, which is designed to automate the packaging of small objects.
The Flap’it! solution is designed to adjust to the size of an object and use inner flaps and cushioning bumpers to hold items in place. This is to protect items during shipping and to cut costs, especially those associated with damage and returns.
According to Ranpak, the machine has a small footprint, which supports ease of movement around a site. It can also be used by a single operator and offers a range of safety features.
The machine can reportedly handle up to 540 packages per hour, which amounts to nine packages per minute. Ranpak claims this is five times faster than the speed of a manual operator.
To support the process, Flap’it! offers an integrated labelling solution to apply labels in-line. The company also suggests that its use of blanks to construct packages saves organisations the money and space previously needed to stock multiple box sizes in inventory.
“The global launch of Flap’it! is the latest example of how Ranpak is strategically investing in innovative automated packaging solutions to deliver cost-savings, efficiency gains and sustainability benefits to our customers,” said Omar Asali, chairman and CEO of Ranpak.
“We are pleased to add Flap’it! to our growing portfolio of sustainable automated packaging solutions to help our customers improve their supply chain performance, lower their labour and materials costs, and reduce their environmental impact.”
Flap’it! is designed to package products up to 80mm (3.15 in) in height, require minimal training to use and offer up to 50% savings in material costs with zero corrugated waste.
One user of Flap’it!, German printing company CEWE, claims that the solution has helped it reduce the number of staff needed during peak periods, automate 30% of the packing process, cut delivery times and better protect its shipments.
