Robotics companies Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) and AutoGuide Mobile Robots have merged to become a single supplier of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).
By the end of September 2022, the new company was officially named as Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR), with manufacturer Teradyne, which owns both companies, appointing its executive Walter Vahey as president.
The headquarters of the new AMR supplier will be in Odense, Denmark, where MiR has overseen operations since 2013.
MiR develops and markets mobile robots, which it claims can be quickly deployed to enable the cost-effective management of internal logistics, with some bots reportedly capable of carrying payloads and pallets up to 3000 pounds (1350kg).
Teradyne acquired MiR in 2018, led by Vahey, and AutoGuide in 2019.
“By joining forces, we will uniquely meet our customers’ need for automation of internal logistics, from a single supplier offering easy to deploy, reliable, scalable AMRs with common fleet management software,” Vahey said.
As part of Teradyne, both companies have already started collaborating on a way to get their AMRs to share fleet management software.
“This close collaboration accelerated the merger,” Vahey added.
“Being one organisation helps ensure we deliver a broad AMR product line operating on a common fleet software to our customers.”
The new organisation will reportedly employ 450 employees, with MiR having already sold more than 7,000 AMRs globally, with a distribution network comprising more than 200 partners.
