Siemens has unveiled its latest industrial robot, the Sinumerik machine tool robot (MTR), a breakthrough technology designed to deliver significant improvements in precision and productivity for demanding manufacturing processes.
The Sinumerik MTR builds on Siemens’ existing Sinumerik run MyRobot direct control solution, adding new functionalities and robot types. The system incorporates a control concept that transforms industrial robots into machine tools.
The company’s technology enables robots to reportedly achieve up to 300% better path accuracy, overcoming the challenges of machining hard materials such as steel, which require increased cutting forces and higher levels of damping.
The new control concept also reportedly results in productivity increases of up to 40%, particularly in applications that do not rely on process forces, such as water jet and laser cutting.
It is powered by Siemens’ Sinumerik One, a digital-native CNC that plays a role in the digital transformation of manufacturing. With its integration with digital twins, Sinumerik One allows for the simulation and testing of workflows in a virtual environment, helping manufacturers optimise processes before implementation.
