Electric vehicle (EV) charger manufacturer Wallbox has opened a new facility in Barcelona that features automation solutions.
Wallbox has implemented storage and management solutions from Mecalux, including a miniload system, pallet racking, the Easy WMS warehouse management system and Multi Carrier Shipping Software.
By incorporating these solutions, Wallbox can reportedly automatically store more than 43,700 boxes containing chargers and components, preparing and shipping more than 6,000 electric chargers daily.
One of the major challenges faced by Wallbox was the need to store thousands of electric chargers in a small space, while also automating internal goods transport and connecting logistics processes with those involved in charger production.
In addition to this, Wallbox needed to cope with increased activity and hopes to double its charger production rate in the coming years.
Controlling the traceability of raw materials and finished products forms a key part of the company’s manufacturing process and supply-chain mamagement.
With this in mind, Mecalux equipped the Wallbox plant with an integrated solution: pallet racking to accommodate raw materials and an automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) for assembled chargers sent from the manufacturing zone.
Mecalux’s Easy WMS warehouse management system supervises all operations and syncs the storage areas with the production lines. The WMS has been implemented in the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model.
The system employs cloud computing technology, which enables the company to control all facility operations from any device and location with internet access. Its high-performance cloud-based server infrastructure adjusts to the volume of business operations, fostering flexibility and scalability.
According to Wallbox, the Easy WMS has provided it with traceability, speed and safety in housing and shipping its EV chargers.
What’s more, automation has boosted operational efficiency by providing greater flexibility to adapt to the EV market’s demand changes, the company added.
David Padillo, logistics director, Wallbox, said: “We chose Mecalux as a storage solution provider because it’s a one-stop shop for all your needs.
“It offers AS/RS, warehouse management software, pallet racks, and maintenance and development services.
“Integrating EasyWMS Warehouse Management Software with Wallbox’s ERP and MES systems provides a comprehensive view of operations, enabling simultaneous control of the traceability of raw materials and finished products. This enhances efficiency and ensures greater agility to respond to market fluctuations.”
