Viemme Srl (Viemme), an Italian supplier of precision parts, has commissioned storage solutions provider Kardex to introduce an automated system to store and retrieve heavy mechanical parts.
The Vertical Lift Module Kardex Shuttle 1000 was selected for this application, and is equipped with an automatic full tray extraction and an integrated crane to store heavy materials.
The automation firm added that the integrated crane in combination with a full tray extraction device can ‘easily’ lift loads of more than 20kg.
What’s more, its closed structure shields goods from dust and dirt, which has helped the manufacturer to address the challenge of dusty goods and control over the company’s inventory.
Viemme has said, thanks to the solution, it can now enjoy complete control over their inventory and its precise location.

Other benefits reported by Kardex include eliminating the need for workers to climb stairs and shelves, which put them at risk of physical injury.
The company previously relied on static shelving, which risked goods’ exposure to corrosion and unnecessary waste. This, in addition to limited space capacity, created bottlenecks for operations.
Kardex said the solution has led to a 50% increase in storage volume and a 400% increase in performance for Viemme
