Japanese manufacturing company Fuji Corporation has announced the development of solution that can automate the movement of wheeled carts on shop floors.
The company claims its solution can automatically move a range of existing cart models.
The bot works by automatically recognising tags that have been added to carts, before moving goods to where they are needed in store.
What’s more, the solution was designed so that implementation would not necessitate any additional infrastructure or changes in a store’s layout.
Fuji began testing the product in July this year at select stores of Cainz, a Japanese home improvement centre chain.
Retail stores often need goods delivered to stores regularly from distribution sites. Automated solutions to support these applications are constantly being developed, but once goods arrive in store, there is still much manual labour involved, according to Fuji.
In response to this, Fuji hopes its solution can be used to automate the work of moving carts to the shelves, and that, by doing so in non-working hours, staff are freed up to pursue more value-adding roles and productivity is improved.
