Industrial robots supplier CNC Robotics will provide a second robotic arm to the creators of the Blackpool Illuminations, as they work to make production more efficient.
According to reports, the Liverpool-based company will supply robotic machinery which will not replace designers but make the cutting out of features from fibreglass more efficient.
Traditionally features were carved out using a knife, but the robotic arm is designed to reduce the potential for mistakes and is seen as future-proofing the production process.
This follows a £4.5m investment in the attraction, with a 3D printer also expected to be introduced to the South Shore production line.
A council report said the service currently uses “outdated” methods, it added the purchase “will allow the Illuminations Service to eliminate these outdated methods, deliver cost savings and provide Blackpool Illuminations with the ability to expedite manufacture and production of illuminated features for the annual show.”
