A Taiwanese designer and manufacturer of advanced industrial and embedded computing platforms, Aaeon, has announced the newest addition to its IoT gateway product offering, the SRG-IMX8P.
The manufacturer claims the new product is powered by Arm NXP i.MX8M Plus Quad-Core Cortex-A53 and Cortex-M7 processors and that the SRG-IMX8P and makes use of an integrated neural processing unit capable of producing 2.3 TOPS.
What’s more, the inclusion of the Arm Cortex-M7 processor is designed to offer the solution real-time calculation functionality to support enhanced machine learning, which Aaeon claims can reduce visual inferencing time for object detection.
The SRG-IMX8P is likewise fitted with an onboard DDR4L system memory of up to 8GB, 16GB eMMC storage and a micro SD slot to enable further system storage.
According to Aaeon, what differentiates the SRG-IMX8P from market competitors is the inclusion of two USB 3.0, two RJ-45 GbE and two CAN-FD ports. These features, it reports, produce a configuration suitable for advanced edge gateway solutions in Industry 4.0 settings, such as factory automation applications.
To support more sophisticated camera and sensor applications, Aaeon equipped the system with USB 3.0 and RJ-45 LAN ports, in addition to the CAN-FD slots, which are designed to transmit and receive sensor data via the SRG-IMX8P’s I/O directly. This, Aaeon says, negates the need for USB-to-CANBus conversion.
The SRG-IMX8P was developed to have an operating temperature range of -4 °F to 158 °F (-20 °C to 70 °C), which its manufacturer suggests can support a range of applications across vertical markets. It can also reportedly support a power input range of 9 to 36V.
The gateway system’s wide temperature range makes it deployable in a wide range of industrial settings, with its power input offering opportunities for in-vehicle applications by allowing for stable operation even with fluctuating power supply sources, according to Aaeon.
Aaeon likewise claims the SRG-IMX8P has already entered mass production and is now available for purchase.
