5PRING – the consortium behind the UK’s first 5G commercial application accelerator – has launched the 5G smart manufacturing programme.
5PRING is looking for organisations with advanced digital technology solutions with applications in the manufacturing space.
Programme partners are BAM Nuttall, a leading infrastructure provider in the UK; Attocore, developer of ultra-mobile core network software technology; Building and Research Establishment (BRE), a multi-disciplinary, building science centre; Make UK, which represents manufacturers in the UK; AE Aerospace, a supplier of precision machined components to the aerospace, marine, defence and advanced engineering markets; BAE Systems, a British multinational arms, security, and aerospace company; CELSA Group, a European multinational in long steel products; and Denso, one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers of technology and components.
BAM Nuttall will lead a consortium with Attocore and BRE, participating in a 5G trial looking at the way people can improve their lives and build back better after the pandemic, funded by DCMS.
The project will run under the name 5G-AMC2 (Accelerate, Maximise and Create for Construction) and will set up a standalone private 5G network on the N77 band at BAM’s regional office in Kilsyth and at a construction project in Shetland.
The project will explore and develop how the construction industry can leverage 5G and other advanced digital technologies to maximise productivity.
Meanwhile, AE Aerospace will be the first UK SME to deploy a 5G private network and will work together with West Midlands 5G on three use cases set to drive forward the future of manufacturing in the region.
For this open call 5PRING is looking for innovators with advanced digital technology solutions for the following use cases: plant operations and site/factory monitoring.
Organisations with 5G-enabled solutions that leverage capabilities such as augmented reality, virtual reality, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, robotics and edge computing are strongly encouraged to apply.
The full list of the smart manufacturing challenge areas, challenge owners and specific 5G-enabled solutions can be found on the 5PRING application page.
Applications for the smart manufacturing programme close on 20th August 2021.
