Transport and logistics solutions provider XPO Logistics has partnered with goods handling robotics developer Balyo for a pilot programme of Balyo’s latest reach truck.
Trialling of the autonomous robotic trucks will take place in real-time conditions at an XPO distribution centre near Blois, France.
Malcolm Wilson, XPO’s chief executive officer for Europe, said: “We’re pleased that our on-site tests will help optimise intelligent reach trucks for the logistics environment. As we pilot the robotics in our operations, we’re also exploring these applications to increase efficiency for customers and to support our employees.”
During the pilot programme the robotic trucks will manoeuvre through aisles as narrow as 2.9m, whilst moving 10 to 20 pallets per hour. The trucks also have an overhead reach of up to 11m.
According to the collaboration, they operate safely in mixed facility settings working alongside employees and traditional forklifts. Balyo develops its autonomous reach robots in collaboration with Linde Material Handling.
