An automated parcel sorting system featuring some 160 Libiao autonomous guided robots is now operational at Viettel Post’s (VTPost) storage and distribution hub on the outskirts of Hanoi, Vietnam.
Viettel Post (VTPost) is the first Vietnamese logistics company to adopt fully-automated robot-based parcel sortation technology, the robotics company said in a statement.
What’s more, the installation process reportedly took just six days, with the system then going live in less than two weeks. Libiao attributes this short lead time to its modular system that requires no fixed infrastructure, making its more flexible and straightforward to install compared with a traditional conveyor-based sorting solution.
Nguyen Kim Thuan, CTO of VTPost, said: “There is a global trend to automate logistics processes wherever possible.
“Giants such as China Post and Amazon have led the way and shown that by introducing robots to undertake the sortation of small parcels for e-commerce order fulfilment it is possible to improve overall time efficiency greatly and reduce picking errors significantly.”

VTPost has said it can now process around 6,000 parcels of various sizes per hour and that the Hanoi site’s throughput speed has doubled since the implementation. This facility serves multiple customers.
In addition, the error rate is now virtually zero, the company added. VTPost offers a range of international and domestic express delivery, logistics and e-fulfilment services out of its the Hanoi facility.
Other reported benefits of the automation solution include a reduction in operational costs and redeployment of staff to more profitable tasks, as just one worker is needed to feet parcels onto the sorting robots at each of the system’s induction stations.
Libiao explained that the solution features in excess of 1,000 destination chutes.
A company spokesperson expressed VTPost’s excitement at being the first Vietnamese company to adopt a system like this.
