Logistics automation specialist Swisslog has announced it will provide data-driven automation and software-powered integration of advanced warehouse technologies for IKEA Supply Malaysia.
The Inter IKEA-run distribution centre, located at Pulai Indah in Selangor, will be its largest regional distribution centre in the Asia Pacific region.
In partnership with Swisslog, the 95,000m2 facility will be equipped with an estimated storage capacity of 192,800m3 with Vectura pallet stacker cranes and Swisslog’s SynQ warehouse management system (WMS) software.
Designed for high bay warehouses, the Vectura cranes have been developed to enable customers to store pallets more efficiently and cost effectively.
With the addition of SynQ warehouse management and warehouse execution software, Swisslog will deliver a fully integrated, end-to-end material handling automation solution for Inter IKEA.
Swisslog’s SynQ provides the platform for the Malaysian IKEA distribution centre, orchestrating the interaction of individual robotics, warehouse technologies and people to provide effective order fulfilment processes.
According to Swisslog, by integrating intelligence into the operations and synchronising the performance of both automated and manual warehouse equipment, businesses can expect greater improvements in workflow efficiency and productivity.
Antonio Machado, project manager at IKEA Supply Malaysia, said: “A key reason that we selected Swisslog as our automation partner is its advancements in data-driven automation solutions.
“The modular architecture of its intelligent SynQ software will help transform our data into actionable intelligence in order to support us in analysing and optimising our warehouse performance.
“When this project is completed, IKEA Supply Malaysia will become the digital hub of advanced, automated intralogistics in this region.”
