Thomann, an online retailer of musical instruments and equipment, has partnered with yard operations solutions provider Peripass to automate logistics at its site in Burkbrach, Germany.
Yard automation solutions were brought in to manage the registration of trucks, minimise wait times and improve visibility at the site.
An average of 75 trucks per day pass through the Burkbach facility, which services the musical retailer’s online retail platform.
By changing the registration process from manual to automatic, Thomann hopes to make this workflow more efficient to avoid misunderstandings and enhance safety, especially in the presence of language barriers. Costs associated with providing staff for this process will also be reduced.

What’s more, by implementing yard automation, Peripass explained that wait times can be significantly decreased, thus reducing the chances of demurrage and storage costs, while also improving processing speed and volume and minimising idle trucks.
The solutions likewise offer greater visibility on arrivals, driver registration and on-site capacity, with these metrics supporting effective management and better guidance to drivers navigating the site, according to Peripass.
Automation was likewise introduced to improve coordination efforts and cut down weighing costs using Peripass’ six integrated features.
A Yard Control Tower was installed to provide real-time insights into operations, with automated task and asset management also being brought in to create efficiency gains.
Self-service kiosks have been placed at the site’s entrance to speed up the registration of both truck drivers and visitors.
Peripass will be exhibiting at Stand 1024 at Robotics and Automation Exhibition. Register to attend now!
