Bothra Shipping Services Pvt Ltd (Bothra), an Indian logistics company, has ordered three all-electric Generation 6 cranes from Finnish crane manufacturer Konecranes to be used at the Port of Kakinada, on the central eastern coast of India.
The cranes are expected for delivery in Q2 2023.
Konecranes will be exhibiting its solutions at IntralogisteX 2023, which will be co-located with Robotics and Automation 2023. It provides solutions across a range of sectors, including manufacturing and process industries, shipyards, ports and terminals
“As we looked at ways to develop our terminals, Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbour Cranes offered us the best available combination of outstanding performance with less noise and no local exhaust,” said Ajit Bothra, owner of Bothra Group.
“This is our first equipment from Konecranes, and we are keen to see how it raises our productivity and overall eco-efficiency.”
The three new cranes have a working radius of 51m (167ft) and a capacity of 125 tonnes, according to its developers.
The berths associated with the terminals at the Kakinada Seaport are equipped with high-tension electrical points, to which the cranes can be connected. The cranes rely on an external power supply without an onboard diesel generator set, with this drive system designed to enable higher efficiency and lower operational costs, while also reducing noise and exhaust emissions.
What’s more, the cranes feature a four-rope hoist system that gives them a 63-ton grab load curve for high bulk handling rates. In cooperation with Konecranes India, Bothra Shipping will reportedly receive on-site technical support to help it integrate the cranes into its operations.
