Automation solutions provider Knapp has partnered with Austrian health products company Biogena to automate the processing of its orders for international shipping.
Knapp has taken over to eliminate the need to manually process orders, which Biogena has said is no longer feasible.
The nutrient company currently serves more than 50 countries, with an increasingly complicated supply chain meaning the company decided to invest in an automated system to prevent picking errors and increase accuracy.

The solution, known as Knapp-Store, starts picking orders at four o’clock in the morning, with Knapp explaining that this reduces stress on staff to meet morning deadlines for order fulfilment and frees up time for goods-in and packaging.
“We decided on KNAPP because they are an Austrian family business. Of course, the technology also played a decisive role – we had the chance to see it in advance at reference customer sites,” said Stefan Klinglmair, COO, Biogena.
The customer also said it valued Knapp’s unbureaucratic approach and that it liked to have personal contact with all of its suppliers.
For its international clients, Biogena delivers large parcels to the stores directly, while leaving picking orders for private customers to be handled by the Knapp-Store. These orders are then packed and sent out to the customer.
The automated fulfilment system accommodates Biogena’s needs for speed and practicality, Knapp added.
Knapp will be exhibiting at Stand 826 at Robotics & Automation Exhibition 2024. The latest developments in robotics and automated technologies will be on show at this event, which will be held on 19-20 March 2024 at the NEC Birmingham.
