CMR Surgical has installed its robotic system in an outpatient surgical practice for the first time in Europe.
The Centre for Ambulatory Robotic Surgery Surgical-Orthopaedic Practice Wiesbaden-Biebrich in Germany initially plans to perform outpatient hernia surgery with the assistance of Versius. Further robotic assistance may also be suitable in outpatient surgery, and will be evaluated following this installation.
“We are entering new territory as practising surgeons here, and we believe that our patients will benefit immensely from robot-assisted surgery,” said Andre Serebrennikov, resident surgeon and partner at the Centre for Ambulatory Robotic Surgery Surgical-Orthopaedic Practice.
“During the pandemic, we have seen that surgical procedures in hospitals have had to be rescheduled at short notice. Being able to offer surgical interventions that are possible on an outpatient basis will help alleviate the burden on the wider healthcare system, and ensure patients are getting the care they need as soon as possible.”
Serebrennikov explained the key factors for choosing the Versius system was it ability to provide a high level of precision, while being a versatile solution with a modular design. “Even more than in a hospital, the surgical robot must offer maximum mobility and modularity given the spatial conditions in a practice in two senses: mobility of the entire system and mobility of the arms. Therefore, Versius was the obvious choice for us.”
The design of Versius enables it to be moved from room to room and is not restricted to one location. The four individual bed side units mean that Versius provides surgeons with freedom of port placement to best suit the needs of each patient.
