Verdant Robotics, which develops sustainable farming solutions, has announced the closure of a US$46.5m (£37.9m) Series A funding round to support the scaling of its robotic technology and accelerate adoption of its agricultural solutions.
This round’s lead investor was food and beverage specialist Cleveland Avenue, which was joined by DCVC Bio, Future Ventures, SeaX Ventures and existing investors, including Autotech Ventures, Cavallo Ventures and AgFunder.
Verdant claims that this makes the funding round one of the sector’s largest to date, and that its commercial Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) is actively servicing a wide variety of specialty crops on thousands of acres.
What’s more, the company hopes to use the investment to rapidly scale its fleet, while also developing next-generation products that can increase the efficiency of its RaaS offering.
“Verdant’s ultra-precision spraying platform is here today — adding new value while doing more with less,” said Gabe Sibley, PhD, co-founder and CEO of Verdant Robotics.
“Thanks to the ongoing support from our investors, growers can thrive as we deploy this transformative technology together.
“At Verdant, we believe that an outsized opportunity requires an oversized effort that only robotics can deliver for agriculture.”
The company also claims its multi-action, autonomous platform is the only agricultural robot in the US market that can simultaneously weed, fertilise and treat plants for pests and diseases – while also allowing farmers to make decisions based on real time data.
