Cyberselves has announced that, ahead of the ANA Avatar XPrize – which aims to create an avatar system that can transport human presence to a remote location in real time – it will be receiving a boost from Pal Robotics, which has agreed to let the company use its hardware.
Cyberselves develops software and programs to support the control and management of robots.
The Sheffield-based Cyberselves has already teamed up with Edinburgh-based TouchLab to form a joint team, and will be representing the UK in the robotics competition in Los Angeles, California, on 4 to 5 November.
The team sees the backing from Pal Robotics as a major endorsement for the team as they get ready to demonstrate their robot avatar system.
What’s more, Cyberselves plans to leverage its robotics telepresence technology with TouchLab’s electronic skin, and claims it will use TIAGo from the Pal Robotics range, in order to try and demonstrate real-time tele-operational control of the robot.
Daniel Camilleri, founder at Cyberselves: “We are thrilled to have this kind of support from Pal Robotics ahead of what is such a massive competition in the robotics world.
“Our admiration for their robots really stepped up during the pandemic when in lockdown we have a lot of time to get to know TIAGo and were so impressed with how well it works, and how suited the robot is to our software.
“The team at Pal Robotics have been so gracious and welcoming, and we have had a lot of fun visiting them in Barcelona, exploring their lab, and getting to know each other.
“Working with Pal Robotics hardware for the telepresence competition gives us great confidence going into the XPrize finals.”
The ANA Avatar XPrize offers a prize pot worth US$10m (£8.8m).
