Kuka has unveiled what it describes as “probably the first fast food robot in the world” in Brazil.
Developed with Brazilian automation company Auttom, the solution incorporates Kuka’s KR 3 Agilus robot and is now serving snacks, beverages and desserts made by Brazilian company Bionicook in “the world’s first fully automated fast food machine of its kind”.
Edouard Mekhalian, managing director of Kuka Roboter do Brasil, said: “We are proud to have been a part of this project and to have been able to implement this idea.”
The concept was first presented at the Mind7 Startup trade fair in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, in May 2019.
With the fast food machine, customers can choose between 14 snacks, two desserts, three salads and 15 beverages.
Users place their order via a touch panel. Once they have paid, the serving robot autonomously prepares, handles and serves the order.
If required, the robot can fetch the food, which is deep-frozen and pre-portioned, cook it and serve it.
The robot serves each order within three minutes, and can fulfil up to 100 orders per hour.
The Kuka KR 3 Agilus has a payload capacity of 3kg and a reach of 540mm.
According to Kuka, the solution can be operated 24 hours per day, seven days per week, and it is possible to achieve shorter cycle times and to increase output.
