A new 650,000ft2 robotics campus has been opened in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This expansion marks a US$110m (£85.4m) investment and extends FANUC’s footprint in Michigan to more than two million square feet.
The site was unveiled by Fanuc America, whose growth trajectory so far has reportedly created more 400 jobs in Michigan alone.
The newly unveiled West Campus will serve as a hub for cutting-edge product manufacturing and customised automation systems.
With warehouse space for more than 6,000 quick delivery robots and tens of thousands of parts, the facility is designed to meet the increasing demand across various industries, including automotive, aerospace, consumer products and pharmaceuticals.
“This major expansion represents our growth strategy in the US and our steadfast commitment to the future of the automation and robotics industry,” stated Mike Cicco, president and CEO of Fanuc America.
“As manufacturers adapt to evolving market demands, our ongoing upward trajectory allows us to better support our customers with cutting-edge robotic and automation solutions, helping to drive more efficiency across all industries.”
The company’s strategic investments in North America have totalled in excess of US$250m (£194.1m), encompassing key facilities such as the 461,000ft2 North Campus in 2019 and new headquarters in Mexico and Canada in 2023.
Its commitment to innovation and growth is further underscored by ongoing projects, including the development of the Fanuc Academy. Situated at the West Campus, the academy will seemingly serve as the largest corporate robotics and industrial automation training facility in the US, addressing the critical need for skilled workforce training in advanced automation technologies.
“Advanced automation requires new skills, and training is key to keeping manufacturing strong in North America, [and] the Fanuc Academy will become the largest corporate robotics and industrial automation training facility in the US,” added Cicco.
The opening ceremony of the West Campus was attended by several state and local dignitaries, including Quentin L. Messer Jr., CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, David Coulter, Oakland county executive and Brian Marzolf, mayor of Auburn Hills.
Messer added: “We are excited that FANUC continues deploying and investing its world-class technologies in Michigan! We know the future will be built by innovators, risk-takers and hard-working Michiganders – and it’s clear Fanuc knows this too.”
