Sensor technology specialist Balluff has opened its new 7,000m² smart factory production facility in Aguascalientes, Mexico as part of a US$53m (£43m) investment in the Americas trading area.
“We believe that business is local and regional – and so is production,” said Frank Nonnenmann, managing director and head of supply chain at Balluff.
“That’s why the new site in Aguascalientes plays a key role in supplying our customers in the Americas region with locally produced products, high availability and short delivery times.”
Balluff also has subsidiaries in Canada, the US, Argentina and Brazil.

The factory for sensor and automation solutions is expected to create 700 jobs in production, management and administration in the area until 2027.
The company currently employs 70 people in the area, with plans to increase to 100 by the end of year. The site will be equipped with latest production technology and an energy-efficient technical infrastructure.
A 500 kWp photovoltaic system has been installed on the roof of the production and logistics hall is underway to provide the site with a proportion of its own electricity in the future.
Following the start of production, Balluff will expand manufacturing in Aguascalientes, including the addition of further assembly lines for sensor and network technology for the American market.
As well as the Aguascalientes project, the company has expanded its production sites in Veszprém, Hungary and Chengdu, China, with the hopes of creating the conditions for more stable global supply chains, shortened delivery times and improved sustainability.
