AutoStore, a global warehouse technology leader known for its modular storage solutions, has opened a new robot assembly factory in Rayong Province, Thailand.
The strategic expansion aims to grow the company’s global footprint, particularly benefiting key markets like Japan, Korea and the US.
AutoStore expects that the new Thai facility will streamline the delivery of AutoStore’s automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) to US warehouses and support its regional expansion.
Currently, 232 AutoStore systems and 17,000 robots are already operational across the US.
According to the company, major brands like Puma, Gucci and Best Buy already use AutoStore’s technology to meet the increasing demands of e-commerce.
“Since 2012, our robots have been produced exclusively in Poland. With the rising demand for our systems worldwide, establishing a second factory was crucial,” said Mats Hovland Vikse, CEO of AutoStore.
“Thailand offers an ideal location with its skilled workforce, proximity to key transport hubs, favourable labour costs and government incentives.”
Israel Losada Salvador, COO at AutoStore, also highlighted the company’s rapid capacity growth: “In the past 24 months, we have tripled our capacity and are prepared to expand tenfold if necessary.
“Our new Thailand facility not only increases capacity but also diversifies our supplier base, reducing lead times from 34 weeks to 20 weeks.”
AutoStore’s cube-based modular storage system, which was developed to replace traditional shelf-based storage and manual retrieval, uses advanced robotics to enhance order fulfilment, maximise warehouse space and boost operational efficiency.
The Rayong factory is expected to create 80 direct jobs in its first year, expanding to 200-300 jobs by 2026.
Within 18 months, AutoStore plans to produce 15,000 robots, doubling its current capacity to meet North American demand.
This development follows the opening of AutoStore’s new US headquarters in the greater Boston area and the expansion of key partnerships, including with US-based medical supplier Medline.
