Active Ants, a provider of e-commerce logistics services, has opened a new e-fulfilment centre in Northampton, which is its first official UK site.
The hub will be equipped with various automated solutions to support operational efficiency. Robots, which Active Ants calls ‘rangers’, will be used to move items through the site and will work using a batch process.
The 252,000ft² hub was officially opened by the mayor of Northampton and is located on the Brackmills Industrial Estate and is the fifth Active Ants facility in Europe.
Currently, the e-fulfilment provider also operates sites in the Netherlands (Nieuwegein and Roosendaal), Belgium (Willebroek) and Germany (Dorsten).
The company also recently announced the expanded capacity of its use of AutoStore solutions at its automated fulfilment centre in Belgium.
“With a mission to make e-fulfilment more accurate and efficient through innovation, automation and the use of technology, we are poised to conquer the e-commerce logistics market in the UK,” said the company in a brief statement.
Khalil Ashong, UK director for Active Ants, added: “We’re building every day and waiting to be told by the builders when we can open officially. We’re already testing for our first customer, so we’re alive.”
