Pure-play contract logistics provider GXO, is participating in the launch of the UK’s first-ever Robotics degree-level apprenticeship programme.
The programme, which begins at MK:U, includes two GXO employees joining the first cohort of apprentices in the rapidly growing robotics industry.
The apprenticeship comes at a key moment for the UK, as the robotics market is seeing significant growth. Industry projections estimate the UK robotics market will generate US$2.15bn in revenue by 2025, with the service robotics sector—including logistics—contributing US$1.9bn of that total.
Experts also predict that robotics could contribute up to £180bn to the UK economy over the next decade.
The new apprenticeship programme aims to meet this demand by providing participants with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. The three-and-a-half-year course was developed in collaboration with leading robotics companies, equipping apprentices with the skills necessary to design, develop, and maintain robotic systems.
Gavin Williams, Managing Director, GXO UK&I, said: “Robotics, automation and AI are going to play a key role driving the UK’s productivity and global competitiveness, and that’s why we’re proud to support Cranfield University’s first apprenticeship degree in Robotics.”
