Serve Robotics Inc (Serve), a developer of autonomous pavement delivery robots, has announced an expansion of its existing agreement with automotive supplier Magna International Inc (Magna) to advance the adoption of robotics for logistics purposes.
The new deal will see Magna become the sole contract manufacturer of Serve’s delivery robots, supporting the robotics company’s target of adding 2,000 of its bots to the Uber Eats platform in the US.
“Serve is a leader in creating robots that navigate complex human environments,” said Ali Kashani, CEO of Serve Robotics. “Following our successful public offering, we are excited to start working to scale our robotic fleet with Magna’s world-class manufacturing capabilities.
“This collaboration supports the natural progression of our business beyond food delivery and positions our proprietary robotics technology as a platform upon which new robots can be built. Magna is a valuable partner in this effort.”
An undisclosed licensing agreement signed prior to the new deal will be expanded by the new contract. Previously, Magna was granted a non-exclusive license to Serve’s robots and expertise to support the development of further automated technologies for logistics applications.
“Magna is excited to continue collaborating with Serve, leveraging our manufacturing and technical expertise to help fuel Serve’s growth potential,” added Matteo Del Sorbo, executive vice president of Magna.
