Residents of the Irish coastal town Balbriggan can now have groceries, coffee and medical supplies delivered by drone, following the launch of Manna Drone Delivery services in the town.
The Irish company successfully completed trials in the Dublin suburb earlier this year and will now introduce zero-emission deliveries with companies including Tesco and Oranmore Pharmacy. The company’s operations base is located at the Millfield Shopping Centre in Balbriggan enabling it to fly drones within a 2km radius.
The autonomous electric drones can carry a payload of around 2kg, cruise at 60m and are set to travel at speeds of 50mph.
According to Manna, the sustainable drone delivery service can also be rapid, with delivery in three minutes. On arrival the drone provides contact-free delivery by lowering the package on a biodegradable thread, which can safely be disposed of or composted.
The company also promises its service is a quieter last-mile solution, without the noise of additional cars in neighbourhoods. It also stressed that its drones respect customer’s privacy as it does not record video, nor store any sensitive customer data. All orders are enclosed within private packaging.
