IntraLogisteX exhibitor Ocado Intelligent Automation (OIA), a division of Ocado Group, has launched the Porter AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot), a new robotic solution designed to streamline warehouse operations by automating pallet movement and various other workflows.
The robot is capable of performing tasks such as cross-docking, bulk-item picking, put-away, and pallet transportation, significantly improving operational efficiency.
The Porter AMR uses OIA’s system-directed software, which coordinates a fleet of robots to optimise travel times, reduce congestion, and ensure safe movement of goods within the warehouse.

By integrating with Ocado’s fulfilment execution system (FES), the robot efficiently groups orders, optimises route plans, and minimises the number of steps between picks. Machine learning also enables the system to prioritise and organise pallet stacking in a way that prevents product damage.
The Porter AMR is equipped to handle a range of tasks, including the point-to-point movement of pallets and cages. With a payload capacity of up to 1,500kg, it can transport either one pallet or two roll cages in a single trip. Its onboard touchscreen and live front-camera view allow for safe manual operation when needed.
Porter’s design enables it to handle standard pallet types such as Commonwealth Handling Equipment Pool (CHEP), Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), and European Pallet Association (EPAL) pallets. Its compact, counterbalance-free design allows it to navigate narrow pallet lanes as small as 51 inches (1.3 metres) wide.
The robot’s dynamic task-switching software adapts to shifting operational needs, seamlessly transitioning between inventory movement and case-picking tasks. Additionally, Porter integrates with existing warehouse platforms such as Warehouse Execution Systems (WES), Warehouse Control Systems (WCS), and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ensuring a smooth flow of operations.
Porter AMR also supports the automation of both inbound and outbound pallet movement from Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS) and can work alongside robotic arms for palletising and depalletising operations.
With its robust capabilities, Porter AMR is poised to transform warehouse management, driving higher productivity, and enabling companies to scale operations more efficiently.
Jeff Larson, Director of Solutions Design for Ocado Mobile Robot System at Ocado Intelligent Automation, said: “Porter from OIA automates low-value, manual tasks and fosters a more productive workplace by supporting associates, increasing case picking rates, and automating the movement of high volumes of inventory.”
