Kuka will supply Czech Technical University in Prague with a range of its robots for use at its international research centre.
According to the German industrial robot manufacturer, the order is the highest educational institutional investment in robot technology in Eastern Europe to date.
The Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics, and Cybernetics (CIIRC CTU) has ordered 23 additional Kuka products including the LBR iiwa, a lightweight robot for delicate assembly work that enables human-robot-collaboration (HRC) in a workspace.
Kuka has also supplied its autonomous KMR iiwa robot, which is HRC-capable, mobile and flexible due to laser scanners, allowing it to navigate fully autonomously.
The platform can move omnidirectionally and rotate 360° due to Mecanum wheels consisting of several rollers aligned at a 45° angel. Both the vehicle and robot are powered by lithium-ion batteries. The multi-functional controller for both the vehicle and robot will allow students to operate the KMR iiwa.
Furthermore, the CIIRC CTU will also receive Kuka ready2_educate training cells. The cells are a complete starter package for hands-on education in robotics. The training tool enables students to learn operation of industrial robots by practising various tasks using a small robot and controller in the cell.
The order follows a previous collaboration between Kuka and the university. The latest robot order will be delivered in early 2021.
