Maersk and Dexory have won ‘Best Use of Robotics’ at the 28th annual Supply Chain Excellence Awards.
The event, which took place last night [28 October 2024] at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, London, saw the Danish shipping and logistics company and its supply-chain partner scoop the trophy for the successful implementation of the DexoryView warehouse intelligence platform at two Maersk UK warehouses in June 2023.
The trophy was presented to individuals from both organisations by Michelle Mooney, deputy editor of Robotics & Automation Magazine, during a glittering gala dinner ceremony attended by nearly 800 logistics and supply-chain professionals and hosted by comedian Ed Byrne.
The ‘Best Use of Robotics’ category recognised projects and organisations that had implemented robotics technologies to fundamentally enhance their logistics and supply chain operations.
The judges thus recognised how Dexory and Maersk had worked together to successfully resolve discrepancies in ‘block stack’ inventory using advanced counting and identification methods.
Prior to the collaboration, managing inventory in block-stacking areas had proved particularly challenging for Maersk due to frequent changes and the absence of a predetermined structure, leading to potential inconsistencies.
However, by employing fully autonomous mobile robots equipped with high-quality cameras and sensors, DexoryView provided Maersk with a real-time digital twin of its warehouse operations.
This capability enabled accurate and rapid stock counting across block stack locations, ensuring precise inventory management and enhanced safety for warehouse personnel.
The judges praised the collaboration for its commitment to addressing prevalent issues in the logistics sector, such as stock discrepancies and operational inefficiencies.
The initiative has not only saved Maersk more than 40 hours of labour each week through automated stock checking but it has also significantly enhanced customer satisfaction by ensuring orders are fulfilled accurately and on time.
The winning entry staved off competition in the hotly contested category from fellow shortlisted organisations:
