UK-based startup Unmanned Life will enter into a pilot project with Spanish carmaker SEAT and telecoms company Telefónica to deploy the world’s first 5G autonomy-as-a-service platform for smart factories.
The announcement was made after Unmanned Life was announced as one of several winners of Start4big’s first Wave of Innovation competition.
The London-headquartered company has developed an AI-enabled software platform for managing air and land vehicles and other robotic systems autonomously, without human intervention via a unique management system.
The solution can be applied in Industry 4.0, in sectors such as logistics and supply chain, telecommunications, public security and transport.
Tests will be done to determine how Unmanned Life, with a single software, manages to connect and coordinate different assets involved in the automated supply process for SEAT parts, including mobile robots, self-driving vehicles and drones.
Telefónica will offer 5G connectivity to coordinate such assets in real time.
Furthermore, the pilot will simultaneously combine 5G and 4G technologies to evaluate how successfully the robots can switch from one network to the other, as well as to test the coexistence of both networks.
