Hyundai Robotics has won what it describes as “a giant deal” from Hyundai Motors’ Indonesian automotive plant for industrial robots.
Hyundai Robotics, which was officially launched as a new company on May 1st, 2020, said the order is for 370 industrial robotic arms for the new facility.
Located in the Deltamas Industrial Complex near Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, Hyundai Motors’ first manufacturing plant in southeast Asia will be completed in 2022.
The plant will be constructed in a 776,000m2 area, with a manufacturing capacity of up to 250,000 cars. Hyundai Motors expects the plant to become a beachhead for its ASEAN business.
The automotive market of major ASEAN countries – which includes Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Singapore – is expected to reach approximately 4.49 million by 2026, up from 3.16 million in 2017.
That’s why Hyundai Robotics plans to supply 370 vehicle manufacturing robots and peripherals and proceed with the construction on “a turnkey basis”, from installing to test driving and more in the new facility.
The Indonesian plant will also be implemented with cutting-edge technologies such as automatic recognition of car types and specs, real-time equipment inspection, and preventive diagnosis.
Hyundai Robotics won the order after competitive bidding alongside leading companies in Japan, Germany, and Switzerland.
An official from Hyundai Robotics said: “We will do our best so that this construction can become a driving force for developing the future by building the new ASEAN market.”
