ABB is expanding its large-size robot portfolio with the IRB 5710, which is capable of handling a payload of 70kg to 110kg, and could be deployed by electric battery producers, the automotive sector, and general industries.
The IRB 5710 is available in four variants, presenting a choice of options for reach from 2.3m to 2.7m. It has been designed for material handling, machine tending and high precision assembly applications.
According to ABB, the IRB 5710 will increase productive by 25% compare with other robots and it provides high accuracy and position repeatability 0.04-0.05mm, enabling high quality manufacturing.
While its three multiple mounting options maximise production design flexibility. The smaller turning radius enables compact application cells, saves floor space, allows increased robot density, ABB added.
The robots are also suitable for use in plastic moulding, metal casting, cleaning, and spraying applications.
“These new robots accelerate ABB’s continuing expansion into the rapidly growing EV market, meeting customer demand for robust units with the speed, path accuracy and dexterity to handle complex EV battery assembly duties” said Joerg Reger, managing director of ABB Robotics’ automotive business line.
“The switch from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to EVs especially is driving increased demand for fast, adaptable production lines.
“EV designs can often be highly complex, and components such as batteries and semiconductor modules can be very heavy or extremely fragile.
“These demands call for solutions that can offer maximum precision and repeatability to avoid errors in production,” Reger added.
By integrating cabling within the body of the robot, ABB’s LeanID Integrated DressPack reduces the problem of swinging cables that can cause wear and tear, reducing downtime and maintenance cost. LeanID is built to make it easier to program and simulate with predictable cable movements in RobotStudio.
Furthermore, the robot features OmniCore V250XT controller’s motion control, the IRB 5710 providing improved speed and accuracy to help increase productivity. ABB added IRB 5710 is faster than other robots in its class enabling more products to be manufactured in less time.
