Epson Robots, a SCARA robot manufacturer, has announced the expansion of its VT6L-Series with a new six-axis robot with reported increased functionality that uses ‘no-code, easy-to-use’ Epson programming software.
Epson describes the new model as a DC-powered version of the VT6L and claims it delivers next-level technology that is well-matched to mobile solutions.
What’s more, Epson reports that this industrial-grade, six-axis robot can be mounted onto an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) for warehousing applications or on a mobile platform for movement between workstations.
The VT6L-DC was developed to offer the same features as Epson’s high-end robots but at a lower cost. Epson claims that some of these high-end functions include a built-in controller, reach of up to 900mm and a payload of up to 6kg (13.2lbs), which were included to enable high throughput and operational flexibility in a more compact design.
Moreover, the VT6L-DC reportedly comes equipped with two development environments – Epson RC+ for more advanced, educational programming and Epson RC+ Express for no-code programming.
The company suggests that the updated Epson RC+ Express software package is well-suited for automation novices with minimal programming experience and offers a simple, visual-based teaching environment, an easy-to-follow, block-style format, ready-to-use templates and features to support rapid installation.
This software offering was previously available on some Epson robots but now, according to the company, works with hundreds of Epson SCARA and six-axis robots, including the All-in-One Series to the GX- and C-Series.
Some added functions of the software include Epson’s proprietary Focus Assist technology with autogenerated fields, which it says can support a fast and easy setup, as well as a built-in 3D simulator to enable the visualisation and fine-tuning of applications.
“As more businesses implement automation to address workforce challenges, Epson recognises that more users require not only easy-of-use applications but also the flexibility to be mobile,” said Scott Marsic, group product manager, Epson Robots.
“Epson is committed to providing a simplified automation experience.
“Solutions like the VT6L-DC empower warehousing, logistics and machine tending operators to move a traditional six-axis robot from place to place rather than mounting it in a single, stationary location.
“And, with simple, visual-based programming software like RC+ Express, users can get their robotic automation solutions up and running quickly.”
Some of the new robot’s additional features include a slimline design with a compact wrist patch for hard-to-reach spaces, reported installation in minutes, an integrated vision guidance option designed to make the automation of simple applications easier, simplified cabling with a hollow end-of-arm design to support tooling, a no-battery encoder to minimise downtime and reduce ownership costs and application versatility.
Epson (Stand 600) will be at Robotics and Automation 2022 on 01-02 November at the Coventry Building Society Arena. For more information about this unmissable event, or to register to attend, please visit www.roboticsandautomation.co.uk.
