Boston Dynamics’ rough terrain robot, Spot, can now be purchased in the UK following a successful rental programme.
The four-legged robot has also been made available in Europe, Canada and Singapore as part of an international sales expansion.
Intended for commercial and industrial use, Spot is designed to cover a range of hazardous facilities such as decommissioned nuclear sites, factory floors, construction sites and research laboratories.
Able to climb stairs, the yellow robot can be used to monitor and provide situational awareness in remote environments. A modular platform also enables Spot to be outfitted with a number of payloads, including cameras, additional ports, computers and lidar sensors.
Through Boston Dynamics’ early adopter lease scheme, available since September 2019, Spot has completed real-time construction monitoring on the Battersea Power Station project for architects Foster + Partners.
The robot was also deployed by German science and technology company Merck for remote sensing and inspection of its thermal exhaust treatment plant in Darmstadt and leveraged by Norwegian maritime engineering firm Kvaerner Stord to test automated tracking and movement of 100,000 assets while surveying its 200,000m2 shipyard.
Boston Dynamics said it is now working to grow its sales territory across Europe, building and maintaining relationships with companies looking to incorporate robots into their organisations.
