Port Logistics Group, omnichannel logistics company, has partnered with Locus Robotics to deploy some 150 autonomous mobile robots into its Chino, California facility.
The partnership said adopting the AMRs will increase warehouse productivity, order pick accuracy and improve workplace ergonomics as well as safety.
E-commerce growth has been driven by the coronavirus pandemic and PLG said implementing automated scalable solutions enables it to meet consumer demand.
Greg Morello, PLG President, said: “In a tight labour market, it is essential that we prioritise employee safety and have the flexibility to creatively deploy our workforce during peak eCommerce periods, especially headed into the holidays.
“This gives our customers a distinct competitive advantage they won’t find anywhere else. If a warehouse shift must be temporarily restructured due to Covid-19 issues or social distancing requirements, we won’t miss a beat and our customers will never see a delay.”
PLG said keeping employees socially distanced during the current Covid-19 environment whilst operating a 6.5 million sq. ft. warehouse has been a challenge.
Rick Faulk, CEO of Locus Robotics, added: “By eliminating unproductive walking time, LocusBots dramatically improve picking volumes and shorten cycle times, while ensuring appropriate health safety measures.”
The partnership will now work closely in the next few months to deploy dashboard displays in the Chino facility.
