Wine retailer Hawesko Group and its logistics subsidiary Internationale Weinlogistik (IWL) have announced that, in order to optimise their intralogistics processes, they will be implementing a scalable autonomous mobile robot solution.
German automation company Körber has been named as the provider of the AMR solution, which will reportedly be fully harmonised with IWL’s warehouse management system (WMS) at the company’s distribution centre in Tornesch, Germany.
According to Körber, the total solution will involve the combination of supply chian software and bring together 35 AMRs in total, 440 racks and five workstations.
In Tornesch, IWL reportedly handles around 25 million bottles and 600,000 gift packages each year.
What’s more, due to the expected growth in e-commerce, the logistics service provider opted for a solution that will support further company growth and efficient handling of fluctuating demand during busy periods.
“Körber’s innovative supply chain solutions run on a unique platform that allows us to quickly adapt our distribution processes, support the buying process and provide a seamless omni-channel experience for our customers,” said Frederick Paulsen, head of IT at IWL.
Moreover, Körber has said it will be integrating 21 AMRs from its partner Geek+, a global smart logistics technology company, along with the Körber Unified Control System (UCS).
According to the automation firm, through an integrative combination of WMS, AMR technology, pick-by-light and the Unified Control System, IWL should see improved efficiency in its operations.
