Autonomous mobile robot (AMR) technology developer Geek+ and Chinese smart logistics solution provider Pangqi Technology have announced a strategic cooperation with LED display manufacturer Unilumin.
The three companies will jointly create what is claimed to be the LED industry’s first fully-automated smart factory, where the entire logistics process, from raw material receiving, quality inspection, warehousing, discharging, production, to finished product warehousing and distribution, is powered by Geek+ AMRs.
Zheng Yong, founder and CEO of Geek+, said: “Geek+ is committed to achieving global smart logistics transformation and is constantly striving to provide robot solutions in complex scenarios.
“We are excited to leverage the combined strengths of our robot fleets and work with Pangqi to empower Unilumin to create a comprehensive and integrated flexible solution that continues to lead global LED manufacturing.”
The project features multi-floor robot collaboration, as well as fully integrated digital operations, with more than 100 Geek+ robots handling nearly 30 different LED production operations over 10 floors and an area of about 100,000m2.
The setup involves four types of AMRs: the P800 goods-to-person picking robot, used for raw material storage and in-store picking; the RS5 tote-to-person picking robot, used for bin storage and in-store picking; the MP1000R moving robot, responsible for inbound and outbound flows and empty container recovery; and four-way shuttles for finished product storage.
To achieve this, Geek+ and Pangqi customised Unilumin’s warehouse management system and robot management system, creating what is said to be the first integration of cross-floor, multi-category robot fleet solution in the LED industry.
Pan Xixiang, deputy director of automation of Unilumin, said: “Unilumin has always focused on technology and design and strives to be the leader in the LED industry. This time we have partnered with industry leaders Geek+ and Pangqi to create a whole-process flexible logistics system in the second phase of our factory in Daya Bay, Huizhou.
“By introducing technologies and equipment such as human-computer interfaces, industrial robots, and intelligent logistics, we are constantly working to realise digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0 upgrades.”
Deployment of the AMRs is currently underway. Once fully implemented, the solution should improve Unilumin’s inventory accuracy rate, reduce labour requirements in production-line material handling, and boost picking efficiency.
Wu Xiaoqian, founder and CEO of Pangqi Technology, said: “Through Pangqi’s smart logistics solution and Geek+’s AMRs and artificial intelligence, we have solved the problems of receiving, zoning storage, set shipping, and production line receival of raw materials for over 180,000 SKUs, achieving an industry breakthrough.
“Unilumin not only ensured no production line stoppage and normal production operation during the upgrade process, but also continuously created a new historical high in production.”
Geek+ (Stand 710) will be at IntraLogisteX 2022 on 29 & 30 March, at the Coventry Building Society Arena. For more details, visit www.intralogistex.co.uk
