UAVAid, a UK-based developer of drone systems for humanitarian applications, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Archangel Imaging, which will see the integration of AI processing technology into drone navigate systems.
The strategic partnership will also develop onboard aerial camera image analysis tools for UAVs. The collaboration aims to enable the quicker initial response times to ‘large scale natural disasters such as floods and wildfires’, and ‘improved accuracy of aerial surveillance to support anti-poaching and environmental protection’ efforts.
UAVAid technical lead, James Ronen, said: “The technical collaboration integrating these cutting-edge technologies will bring new levels of operational capability, increasing accuracy and endurance of drone surveillance and monitoring, and builds on our previous technical collaboration with Archangel Imaging.”
UAVAid, which operates a fleet of UAVs for humanitarian applications in remote and difficult to reach areas, recently completed its first medical drone delivery trial in Sierra Leone.
Daniel Ronen, UAVAid commercial lead, added: “This agreement follows our recent deployment in West Africa, where we identified numerous use-cases where this direction of technology development could be of potentially game-changing value to the welfare of remote communities and environment, particularly in mitigating the impact of climate change.”
