Nvidia has announced the launch of AI developer kit for students, educators and hobbyists.
The Jetson Nano 2Gb developer kit has been designed to make AI easily accessible for all by using hands-on projects in robotics and intelligent IoT.
According to Nvidia, the entry level kit, priced at US$59 (£45), opens the potential of AI to a new generation. The company will also provide free online training that includes how-to videos created by its developers.
Deepu Talla, vice president and general manager of edge computing at Nvidia, said: “While today’s students and engineers are programming computers, in the near future they’ll be interacting with, and imparting AI to, robots.”
The developer kit is supported by Nvidia’s Jetpack SDK, which comes with a container runtime and a full Linux software development environment. The company said this allows developers to package their applications for Jetson with all its dependencies into a single container designed to work in any deployment.
It is also powered by the same Nvidia Cuda-X accelerated computing stacked used in AI products including self-driving cars, industrial IoT and smart cities.
Nvidia said the developer kit provides a scalable platform for learning and creating AI applications as it evolves. It has already been used by organisations, enterprises and educators including the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.
Emilio Frazzoli, professor of dynamic systems and control at ETH Zurich, said: “The educational platform provides a hands-on, scaled down, accessible version of real-world autonomous systems. Integrating Nvidia’s Jetson Nano power enables unprecedented, affordable access to state-of-the-art computer solutions for learning autonomy.”
