Humanoid robot Ai-Da was brought before a House of Lords committee to give evidence in an inquiry about the potential challenges for art and the creative industries, as well as how they can evolve alongside technology.
While giving evidence, the robot turned off, leading it to be forcibly reset by its operator, with sunglasses placed over its face while it did so.
The robot is named after famed mathematician Ada Lovelace.
When asked what the role of technology was in creating art in the future, Ai-Da said: “The role of technology in art will continue to grow as artists find new ways to use technology and express themselves and reflect and explore the relationship between technology, society and culture.
“Although not alive, I can still create art.”
The AI bot is the first humanoid to speak in UK parliament. Aidan Meller, who developed Ai-Da, appeared alongside it at the session for the House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee.
