Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced several new features for its SageMaker platform aimed at accelerating the development, training, and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) models.
Unveiled at the AWS re:Invent conference, the updates focus on improving efficiency and simplifying workflows for companies using generative AI.
The launch marks another step in the company’s push to strengthen its offering against other artificial intelligence giants like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI (ChatGPT).

The new innovations include enhancements to SageMaker HyperPod, a tool designed to optimise the use of compute resources for AI model training. These improvements help customers save up to 40% in training costs by reducing the time required to train large-scale generative AI models.
SageMaker now offers more than 30 pre-configured training recipes for popular models such as Llama and Mistral. These recipes simplify the training process, automating tasks like data loading and distributed training configuration, and allow users to quickly fine-tune models without spending weeks on initial setup.
Additionally, SageMaker HyperPod introduces training plans that allow customers to set a desired training completion date and compute budget.
The platform will automatically reserve the necessary resources and manage training tasks, ensuring that deadlines are met without manual intervention. Another new feature, task governance, enables organisations to prioritise critical tasks and allocate resources efficiently, reducing idle time and helping ensure that urgent tasks are completed on schedule.
AWS has also integrated popular AI applications from third-party partners like Comet, Deepchecks, and Fiddler directly into SageMaker. This integration streamlines the use of specialised AI tools, eliminating the need for customers to set up and manage additional infrastructure.
Dr. Baskar Sridharan, vice president of AI/ML Services and Infrastructure at AWS, said: “With the rise of generative AI, SageMaker continues to innovate at a rapid pace and has already launched more than 140 capabilities since 2023 to help customers like Intuit, Perplexity, and Rocket Mortgage build foundation models faster”
